the missing architects

Part two architects are having to be innovative to keep their hand in the profession with more and more standing on their own two feet and creating a business, this however creates a difficulty for the graduate as they are effectively halting their professional experience in the eyes of ARB, even though they are gaining valuable architectural experience. It is important that not only can we have recognition as qualified architects at a certain level but also that we can validate our experience.

As a part two and a partner in icecream architecture, I feel that though I watch many of my cohort being driven out of architecture all together, there are still many maintaining a level of interaction and experience making through imagined projects and business ideas.

It is distinctly hindering that though we are striving to keep the momentum and freshness of the profession alive the establishments that validate us will not recognise this and thus creates a gap in the profession, a missing generation of architects that could not or were not allowed to become registered due the regimented and prescribed process.
